Oranges
here is what i wrote at the back of my notebook when i was in a polytech class:
I was thinking about oranges, how the peel takes so long to degrade, as long as some man-made degradable material, so it is not ideal for compost heaps. I wondered why nature put so much energy into creatung such thick skins. I thought how all citrus fruit in winter to provide us with vitamin rich food in barren times. The orange looks like a sun, a sun egg. I dont know the details of citrus cultivation over history but even so it makes me feel safe and looked after .
Here is one of my favourite memories:
Sitting alone on my lunch break, on a patch of grass along the sidewalk. Dirty from a hard mornings work, using my dirty hands to pry open an orange, ripping the peel back and taking huge bites. The sugary juice drips along my arms and knees, and it feels like i am eating a piece of light. The sun is out and bathes us all in warm sugary juice. Laughing because i am alone on the side of the street witnessing a miracle. Smiling because all i am could be just my dirty sticky hands. And Sighing because i know ill remember this forever. Mastering true eating.
Sonora Sprite said he ate 12 oranges when he got a cold, he told ne to do the same but I couldnt manage.
